This guided desert plant walk takes place at Veterans Oasis Park and focuses on medicinal plants that grow in desert wetland and wash environments. These water-influenced areas support plant species that differ from upland desert habitats, offering a distinct learning context within the Sonoran Desert region.
During the walk, we will observe seasonal plants currently growing around ponds, washes, and low-lying areas, learn to identify key wetland-adapted species, and discuss their traditional ethnobotanical uses. Emphasis is placed on plant recognition, habitat, growth patterns, and how access to water shapes plant behavior in desert landscapes.
Some plants discussed may also appear on other Desert Plant Walks throughout the season. Seeing the same species across different environments supports stronger recognition and practical plant knowledge.
This is an observational and educational walk. No harvesting will take place.
