Plant Walks are guided, place-based walks focused on herbal medicine and ethnobotanical traditions, with an emphasis on recognizing local medicinal plants in their native habitats and ecosystems.


These walks draw from field study and practical use, building plant recognition, seasonal awareness, and plant stewardship.

  No prior experience is required. These walks are suitable for beginners as well as those with existing plant knowledge. Information is shared through observation and discussion in the field.


No. All Desert Plant Walks are observational and educational. No harvesting takes place.


Some plant species appear across multiple walks. Seeing the same plants in different locations and environments supports stronger recognition and practical understanding over time. Each walk is shaped by place, season, and habitat.


Terrain varies by location. Some walks take place on paved, level paths, while others involve uneven, rocky, or hilly desert trails. Please review each walk’s description carefully to ensure the terrain is appropriate for you..


Accessibility varies by location. Some walks are suitable for scooters and mobility aids, while others are not. Accessibility information is listed clearly in each individual walk description.


Closed-toe shoes, water appropriate for the season, and sun protection are required for all walks. Additional details will be sent by email 24 hours before the event.


Participants who arrive without appropriate footwear or water will be unable to participate and will not receive a refund. These requirements are in place for safety.


Group size varies by location and is listed in each walk description. Group limits are set to support clear observation, discussion, and safe movement through the landscape.


No. Desert Plant Walks are designed for adults and older teens only. These walks take place in desert environments with uneven terrain, cactus, and other hazards. For safety and insurance reasons, children are not permitted to attend. 


No. Dogs are not permitted on Desert Plant Walks. This is for the safety of participants, wildlife, and the plants we are observing, and to ensure the group can move and focus without disruption. 


Yes. Each walk requires a minimum of 5 participants. Minimum attendance is confirmed 3 days prior to the scheduled walk date. If the minimum is not met, registered participants will be notified and refunded.


Desert Plant Walks take place outdoors and proceed in most weather conditions. In the case of unsafe conditions, participants will be contacted with updates.


Yes. Registered participants will receive an email approximately 24 hours before the walk with meeting location details and reminders on what to bring.
