Ocotillo growing along a Sonoran Desert plant walk in Arizona

About the Walk

This guided desert plant walk takes place at the Fountain Hills Desert Botanical Garden and focuses on medicinal plants of the Sonoran Desert. The garden setting allows for close observation of a wide variety of desert species, while the route includes natural dirt paths and elevation changes typical of upland desert landscapes.

This outdoor walk is designed for those interested in learning how desert plants are identified and understood in herbal practice. We will observe plants in their growing environment and discuss their traditional and contemporary uses for food, medicine, and everyday living.

Some plants discussed may also appear on other Desert Moon plant walks throughout the season. Seeing the same species in different habitats helps build stronger recognition and practical plant knowledge.

This is an observational and educational walk. No harvesting will take place.
