About the Walk
This guided plant walk takes place in Arizona’s White Mountains near Show Low and focuses on medicinal plants found in the region’s forests, meadows, and mountain habitats.
The higher elevation, cooler temperatures, seasonal moisture, and diverse plant communities of the White Mountains offer a very different environment from the lower Sonoran Desert. Participants will have the opportunity to observe regional plants in their natural habitat while exploring how elevation, soil, water, and season influence where they grow.
This outdoor walk is designed for those interested in learning how mountain plants are identified and understood in herbal practice. We will discuss traditional and contemporary uses, plant ecology, safety considerations, and responsible relationships with the land.
Some plants discussed may also appear on other Desert Moon plant walks throughout the season. Seeing related species and familiar plants across different elevations and habitats helps build stronger recognition and practical plant knowledge.
This is an observational and educational walk. No harvesting will take place.
